Don’t forget, some big changes to the national insurance contributions (NICs) paid by employers will come into effect from 6 April 2025. These include:
- The rate of employers’ NICs will go up from 13.8% to 15%.
- Employers will start paying NICs on employee salaries from £5,000 instead of £9,100.*
*A higher threshold of £50,270 applies for employees under 21 and apprentices under 25. There may be other exceptions too. - The ‘employment allowance’ – which eligible employers can use to reduce their NICs bill – will increase from £5,000 to £10,500.
- The rules around who can claim the employment allowance are being relaxed. Up to 5 April 2025, only employers who paid less than £100,000 in NICs the previous year could claim it. From 2025/26, this limit no longer applies. So even if you paid more than £100,000 in 2024/25, you might still be able to claim the £10,500 allowance.
Some restrictions still apply (for example, only one allowance is allowed between connected employers), so please get in touch at payroll@mmgca.co.uk if you’re not sure whether you qualify or need help making the claim.
