HMRC ‘Nudge’ Letters Being Sent to Taxpayers

HMRC have recently increased their use of ‘one to many’ or ‘nudge’ letters to taxpayers, suggesting there may be errors or omissions in tax returns or accounts information. While HMRC claims these letters are a key part of their compliance strategy, many view them as a “fishing” expedition, similar to direct mail marketing, which can understandably cause concern for innocent taxpayers. If you receive such a letter, please get in touch with us, and we can handle the matter on your behalf.
