A Fond Farewell to Jim McEwen

After more than four decades in accountancy, Jim McEwen is finally closing Excel for the last time, and heading off into a well-earned retirement.

Jim’s story began in 1983, when he joined W A Finlayson & Co as a trainee accountant. Over the years, through mergers and changes, he helped shape what eventually became Finlaysons Chartered Accountants, one of the most trusted names in Perth and Crieff.

When MMG and Finlaysons joined forces in 2022, Jim officially became part of the MMG story. But really, it felt like a natural next chapter in a career built on local knowledge and client trust.

“Jim has been more than just a colleague. He’s been a steady hand and a friendly face to both his team and his clients,” said Paul Crichton, Managing Director at MMG. “We’ll miss him hugely, but we’re so glad to see him heading off into retirement knowing just how much he’s accomplished.”

Jim’s legacy is one of community. He’s helped generations of clients and mentored countless colleagues, always with a no-nonsense approach and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Jim said, “I never expected 1983 to turn into a 40-year career, but here we are. I’ve seen the profession change in ways I’d never imagined, but what’s never changed is the importance of looking after people. That’s always been the best part of the job. I’ll miss the team, the clients—and maybe even the chaos of January!”

From all of us at MMG, thank you, Jim! You’ve more than earned a slower pace (but we have a feeling you won’t be slowing down any time soon).

Wishing you all the very best in retirement.
